This week I catch up with Rabbi Jessy Gross, Director of the Charm City Tribe, a program of the JCC in Baltimore. Jessy grew up in Northern Virginia and attended the University of Maryland, College Park where she received a B.A. in History and Jewish Studies in 2002. She has a Masters in Hebrew Letters and Jewish Education, as well as, rabbinic ordination from the Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion in Los Angeles, CA. She cares deeply about helping to translate Jewish tradition and culture to a generation that often struggles to find meaning and resonance in their daily lives. Some of Jessy’s favorite past times include baking challah, making homemade channukah candles, convening with nature and friends and rapping in the Kayam Farm Family Band.
We chat about her love for the city of Baltimore, what makes the Charm City Tribe different, and her take on creating a culture Judaism that matters.
